Today we experienced the wonder of The Lion King at the Lyceum Theatre in London’s West End, and it was an unforgettable family night out. We had the unique pleasure of watching from Box E, which added an extra layer of excitement to the experience—especially when one of the performers actually joined us in the box! It felt like we were right in the middle of the action. The girls loved the freedom to stand up, stretch, and even dance, and having a personal wait-staff serving snacks and drinks made the evening even more special.
The only downside of the box was the somewhat restricted view of the stage at certain angles. But with the sheer magic of The Lion King, it was easy to get lost in the performance regardless.

The Show
The Lion King musical is every bit as spectacular as you’d expect from Disney. From the opening number, “The Circle of Life,” to the powerful closing scenes, the show is a visual and auditory feast. The costumes and puppetry are nothing short of genius, with the vibrant colors, detailed animal representations, and dynamic set pieces creating an immersive atmosphere that draws you into the world of the African savannah.
The story follows the journey of Simba, from his joyful cubhood to the heart-wrenching loss of his father, Mufasa, and his eventual return to Pride Rock. The tale of family, destiny, and bravery is brought to life with stunning choreography, and the cast’s energy never falters.
The Songs
Of course, the music is a major highlight. The beloved songs by Elton John and Tim Rice—classics like “Hakuna Matata,” “Can You Feel the Love Tonight,” and “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King”—are accompanied by mesmerizing African rhythms and chants. The vibrant soundscape transforms the theatre, and you can feel the energy reverberate through the entire audience.
The Magic of Disney
What makes The Lion King such a standout is the seamless blend of spectacle and emotion. Disney’s magic truly shines in this production, from the moment the lights dim and the animals start making their way through the aisles of the theatre. The girls were absolutely in awe! Even the familiar moments from the film feel fresh and new when brought to life on stage, with the puppetry, lighting effects, and live music combining to create a wholly immersive experience.
Favorite Character
Our favorite character of the night was Rafiki. The actor’s charisma and energy brought the character to life in such a vibrant and heartwarming way. Rafiki’s humorous yet wise presence added the perfect balance to the more intense moments of the show. Every scene with Rafiki felt electric, and her voice was absolutely stunning.

Final Thoughts
Overall, The Lion King at the Lyceum Theatre was a night full of wonder and joy. Despite the slightly restricted view in Box E, the interactive nature of our seating and the fantastic service made the experience unforgettable. The musical itself is a dazzling display of Disney magic, and it’s a must-see for both kids and adults alike. Whether you’re a fan of the classic film or experiencing The Lion King for the first time, this production is sure to leave you in awe!
