Brothers and Sisters-in-law do Belize

Hi all, it’s Laurel! A few weeks ago my husband Matt said, “I want to go fishing in Belize with my brothers.” I replied, “I think the wives should go to!” and I’m so glad I suggested it. Although the wind made the fishing more difficult than they would have liked, we had a wonderful time together relaxing and exploring! The accommodations and food were top notch. Here’s what we did:

Day 1

On day 1, we embarked on a long, leisurely walk into the vibrant town of San Pedro, soaking in the local culture and picturesque scenery. The highlight of our adventure was snorkeling and diving in the pristine waters of the Hol Chan Marine Reserve, where we marveled at the diverse marine life and stunning coral formations. Our underwater escapade didn’t end there; we also visited the thrilling Shark Alley, where we swam alongside nurse sharks and stingrays in an exhilarating close encounter with these magnificent creatures. The combination of San Pedro’s charm and the breathtaking beauty of Belize’s underwater world made this trip an unforgettable experience for all of us.

Day 2

The Sis-in-laws took on (not so) Secret Beach while the Bros fished! Secret Beach in Belize is a hidden gem located on the west side of Ambergris Caye, offering a tranquil escape from the more bustling areas of the island. Despite its name, Secret Beach has become a popular spot for both locals and tourists seeking a serene and picturesque beach experience. The crystal-clear turquoise waters are shallow and calm, making it ideal for swimming and wading. The beach is dotted with rustic beach bars and eateries, where visitors can enjoy refreshing drinks and local cuisine while lounging on hammocks or beach chairs. With its breathtaking sunsets, soft sandy shores, and laid-back atmosphere, Secret Beach provides the perfect backdrop for a relaxing day in paradise. It was so much fun!! The only downside? Our trip required a very bumpy golf cart ride to get there.

Day 3

The 6 of us took a plane from San Pedro to the mainland followed by a 25 mile river cruise on the New River to the Lamanai Archaeological Reserve, one of the oldest, continuously inhabited archaeological zones in the Mayan World. One of the most memorable parts of our Belize adventure was the 25-mile river cruise on the New River to the Lamanai Archaeological Reserve. This scenic journey took us through lush tropical rainforests, where we spotted a rich variety of wildlife, including exotic birds, crocodiles, and even playful monkeys swinging through the trees. The river itself was a peaceful and winding path, occasionally opening up to reveal picturesque lagoons and hidden marshes. As we approached the Lamanai Archaeological Reserve, the ancient Mayan ruins emerged from the dense jungle, hinting at the rich history and mystery that awaited us. Exploring the reserve, we marveled at the towering temples and intricate stone carvings, feeling a deep connection to the ancient civilization that once thrived in this captivating landscape. The river cruise to Lamanai was not just a journey through nature, but also a voyage back in time, making it a truly unforgettable experience. My absolute favorite part? Being greeted by some very vocal Howler monkeys!
