DIY Santa Cam Ornaments: A Fun Project with a Purpose

This holiday season, my daughter Edie is at it again with her non-profit, Edie’s Helping Hands. She’s raising funds for an incredible cause: The Levy Giving Fund’s effort to buy mobility scooters for veterans. To support this, she’s making and selling adorable Santa Cam ornaments, and we thought it would be fun to share the how-to with all of you!

These ornaments are festive, easy to make, and a great way to add a little magic (and a touch of “Santa is watching”) to your tree. Plus, they’re a fantastic DIY project for a meaningful cause.

Here’s how you can make your own Santa Cam ornaments:

You’ll Need:

  • Clear plastic ornaments – We found ours at Michaels, but any clear ornaments will work.
  • Mop N Glo – Yes, the floor cleaner! It’s perfect for glittering the inside of the ornaments.
  • Fine glitter – We used red, but feel free to choose your favorite festive color.
  • Clip-on phone cams – We grabbed these from Dollar Tree and used just the front part of the lens.
  • Vinyl stencil lettering or a Sharpie – To write “Santa Cam” on the ornament.
  • Super Glue – To attach the camera lens to the ornament.
  • Red ribbon – For the finishing touch to hang your ornament.

How to Make It:

  1. Prepare the Ornament
Remove the top cap of the ornament so you can work with the inside.
  2. Add Glitter
    • Pour a small amount of Mop N Glo into the ornament and swirl it around to coat the inside completely.
    • Drain any excess cleaner, then pour in the glitter.
    • Cover the top and shake gently until the entire inside is covered in a beautiful, even layer of glitter.
    • Let it dry for a few minutes.
  3. Attach the Camera Lens
    • Take your clip-on phone cam and remove the front lens piece.
    • Using super glue, attach the lens to the front of the ornament, positioning it as the “camera” for your Santa Cam.
    • Allow it to dry completely.
  4. Add the Label
    • Use vinyl stencil lettering or a Sharpie to write “Santa Cam” on the front of the ornament.
    • If you’re using vinyl stencils, press them firmly to avoid bubbles.
  5. Finish with Ribbon
    • Replace the ornament’s top cap.
    • Tie a piece of red ribbon through the loop to create a hanger.

Why It Matters

Not only are these ornaments a delightful addition to your tree, but they also carry the spirit of giving. Edie’s Santa Cam ornaments are more than just a fun craft—they’re helping veterans regain mobility and independence.

Whether you make these ornaments to gift, sell, or keep, you’re spreading a little extra holiday cheer. And if you want to support Edie’s fundraiser directly, check out Edie’s Helping Hands here to learn more and purchase a ready-made Santa Cam.
