When it comes to throwing a Halloween party, Laurel and I (Katy) are all about mixing magic with mayhem. This year, Katy’s house transformed into a spooky haven of thrills, chills, and delightful frills. Here’s how our hauntingly fabulous evening unfolded, complete with a touch of enchantment from the incredible Lochlan Masters.
From Kid’s Birthday to Spooky Soirée
Our magical journey began at a birthday party for one of my kiddos, where a last-minute substitution turned into a stroke of luck. Lochlan Masters, the magician who stepped in, wowed us all – kids and grown-ups alike. His performance was so captivating that when we discovered he had a Halloween show called “The Dark Seance,” we knew it would be the perfect spine-tingling addition to our Halloween plans.
A Dinner Party to Die For
Fast forward to Halloween night. My house was dressed to impress (and haunt) with DIY decorations that would make any ghoul green with envy. We raided Michaels for candlesticks, spooky foliage, cobwebs, and skeletons to create an atmosphere that was both eerie and elegant.
Our guests, some of my dearest friends (including Lo, of course!), arrived ready for a night of fun and fright. I had hand decorated champagne glasses by dipping them in spooky glass paint, and using a Sharpie to draw cobwebs and spiders on the bottom of wine glasses. The buffet table was a crowd-pleaser with crockpot delights like Italian Chicken, Vegetable Confit, and Beef Bourguignon. If you left hungry, you’d have to be a ghost!
The Dark Seance: A Night to Remember
The highlight of the evening was, without a doubt, Lochlan Masters and his “Dark Seance.” Described on his website as “a magic show wrapped in a ghost story,” this theatrical recreation of a Victorian-era seance was nothing short of mesmerizing. Lochlan promised no real connection to the afterlife, yet guaranteed we’d leave feeling like we had been in contact with it. And let me tell you – he delivered!
Lochlan is a biomedical engineering professor by day, but by night (and on holidays, evenings, and weekends) he is a magician with an impressive resume! We will let him tell you why he can’t show you one of his best illusions (Spoiler alert: It’s because David Copperfield bought it so David Blaine wouldn’t get it!)
With each mind-bending trick and spooky tale, Lochlan had us on the edge of our seats. The room was filled with gasps, laughter, and the occasional shriek (almost exclusively from our friend Holly) as he led us through his mystical adventure. Try as I might, I couldn’t figure out his magic, and by the end of the night, I was a true believer – in both his talent and the spooky spirits he conjured.
A Spellbinding Success
The evening was a bewitching blend of good food, great company, and unforgettable entertainment. Our Halloween party was a scream, and Lochlan Masters’ “Dark Seance” added that extra layer of enchantment that left everyone spellbound. It was the perfect excuse to dress up, get together, and celebrate the magic of friendship and Halloween fun.
