Family Fun in Steamboat Springs: Summer Adventures with the Kids

Hello, Lo+Mo family! Katy here, and I’m thrilled to share our latest adventure in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. This picturesque mountain town is often known for its winter activities, but let me tell you, Steamboat Springs in the summer is an absolute gem—especially if you have young children.

A Perfect Stetson at F M Light & Sons

Our first stop was the legendary F M Light & Sons Hatmaker. This iconic store has been a part of Steamboat Springs since 1905, and it’s a must-visit for anyone looking to capture a piece of the Old West. My kids were fascinated by the history and charm of the shop, but the highlight was getting fitted for a Stetson. The knowledgeable staff made the experience fun and engaging for the kids, ensuring each hat was perfectly sized. Watching their faces light up as they tried on their hats was priceless. These Stetsons are now treasured souvenirs that remind us of our fantastic trip.

Soaking in the Hot Springs

No visit to Steamboat Springs is complete without a trip to the hot springs. We spent a relaxing afternoon at the Old Town Hot Springs, which offers something for everyone. The kids loved the water slides and the climbing wall, while Adam and I enjoyed soaking in the therapeutic hot springs. The warm, mineral-rich waters are not only soothing but also have numerous health benefits. It was the perfect way to unwind and enjoy some quality family time amidst the stunning mountain scenery.

Sunshine and Ski Lifts

While Steamboat Springs is famous for its skiing, the summer offers a different kind of magic. We took a ride up the ski lift and were rewarded with breathtaking views of the valley below. The kids were amazed by the lush greenery and the wildflowers in full bloom. The gentle sway of the lift and the warm sunshine made for a peaceful and memorable experience. Once at the top, there are plenty of trails to explore, and we even had a picnic overlooking the mountains. It’s an ideal spot for family photos, so don’t forget your camera!

Why Steamboat Springs?

Steamboat Springs is an excellent summer destination for families with young children for several reasons. First, the town is incredibly family-friendly, with plenty of activities to keep the little ones entertained. The locals are welcoming, and there’s a strong sense of community. Additionally, the natural beauty of the area provides endless opportunities for outdoor adventures, whether you’re hiking, biking, or simply exploring the great outdoors. The mix of history, relaxation, and adventure ensures that there’s something for everyone in the family to enjoy.

Tips for Your Trip

  1. Stay Hydrated: The elevation can be a bit of an adjustment, so make sure to drink plenty of water.
  2. Pack Layers: Even in the summer, the weather can be unpredictable. Bring layers to stay comfortable throughout the day.
  3. Book Ahead: Popular activities like the hot springs can get busy, so it’s a good idea to make reservations in advance.

Steamboat Springs in the summer is a destination that truly has it all. From the charming F M Light & Sons Hatmaker to the rejuvenating hot springs and the breathtaking views from the ski lift, our family had an unforgettable time. I highly recommend adding it to your family travel bucket list. Happy travels!
